I am bringing back the wiki to birdingoklahoma.com The wiki was my original idea for the site and I eneded up forwarding the domain to this social network. I have stopped the forward so that I can use it for the wiki. I will not take down this network. I will find ways to incorporate the two into each other. The wiki will be more for educational use and the social network for posting pictures and sharing information.
I would like to use some of the great photos posted on this site on the wiki.…

A few weeks ago I watched an absolutely wonderful program on PBS about the American Bald Eagle. This morning when I was looking over the PBS website seeing what the upcoming episodes on Nature would be, I saw that the entire Bald Eagle episode is available to watch online.
This video is definitely worth your time to sit and watch.

Below is copied from the NRDC:
Impact of Tar Sands Oil Development in Canada’s Boreal on Birds
Each spring more than half of America's birds flock to the Canadian Boreal forest to nest. There, tens of millions of birds -- as many as 500 breeding pairs per square mile of forests, lakes, river valleys, and wetlands -- spend the winter. Yet almost all the biggest oil companies are mining and drilling important Boreal forest and wet…

Via Audubon Alerts:
The historic election of Barack Obama as President of the United States marks what should be a landmark win for the environment as well. President-elect Obama has decidedly different views on several mainstream environmental issues than does the current administration, including his support for protection of sensitive habitat like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Outer Continental Shelf, his strong pledge to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address…

Rusty Blackbird
Posted from eBird:
Populations of Rusty Blackbirds are crashing! Their numbers have plummeted by as much as 88-98% over the last few decades, according to data gathered between 1966 and 2006 for the North American Breeding Bird Survey and Christmas Bird Count. A species that was once considered to be abundant is rapidly disappearing before our eyes. Your observations can help save this species…

I went out to one of my favorite ponds to bird watch at and I was not disappointed. If you are ever in the Clinton area, the pond is 4 miles west of town and about 3 miles north. (GPS 35.5456185,-99.0630126) One of the reasons I really like this pond is because of how it is situated. The road is to the east of the pond and so in the mornings, the sun is at your back and you can get a real clear look at the birds. It also has great habit for a variety of birds. Up until a few years ago, I would a…

Came across
this page on the Sutton Center's website. It might be a good project for one of the Audubon groups to make a field trip day.
I'm sure the Selman IBA would be happy to have people come out and help with such a project.

While cleaning out some boxes in the spare bedroom last night, I ran across some of my old field logs. While some of what is in the logs make sense probably to no one but me, it is interesting to go back and see where and when you have seen birds.
Part of what I found interesting is that in my early years, I know I misidentified birds. Not that I don't ever misidentify birds still, I just know that I do it much less. I also saw that early on I had a habit of just naming the birds I saw. I never…

Looking for some updates to the upcoming Christmas Bird Counts around the state. If you have any information on them, please post them to the event calendar.
If you have never taken part in a CBC, I would highly recommend that you try to be a part of one this year. They are great fun and a real learning experience.
