WOODWARD — With northwest Oklahoma a prime location for the lesser prairie chicken, the Oklahoma Audubon Council has chosen Woodward as the site of a festival dedicated to the birds. "A lot of people know they’re out there, but haven’t ever seen them,” said Council Chairman John Kennington. The festival will be April 17-20, with additional activities on April 21-22, Kennington said. It will be the weekend before the Birding and Heritage Festival at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge.
The Oklahoma Audubon Council hopes to get Oklahomans to better appreciate the prairie chickens through field trips and conservation projects during the festival, he said.
